The U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) consists of St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix. These islands are surrounded by natural Caribbean beauty, including calm ocean waters, gentle winds, and backdrops of turquoise. Yachting in the USVI also includes golf courses, state-of-the-art spas, and fine restaurants. With this, there’s more than enough to inspire visitors to enjoy a private yacht charter vacation.
St. Thomas is the second largest and most developed of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Known as the gateway to the Caribbean, the island is full of duty-free shopping, historical landmarks, incredible marine life, and jaw-dropping views. While yachting in the USVI, you can visit one of the most popular beach spots: Magens Bay. Located on the Northern side of the island, Magens Bay is considered one of the best beaches in the world. This beach offers crystal-clear water, making it the perfect snorkeling spot to take in the incredible marine life beneath. Not far from the beach is Drake’s Peak, a mountain top 1,500 feet above sea level that offers a spectacular panoramic view of both the U.S. and the British Virgin Islands, a total of 20 islands in all. In fact, National Geographic has rated this view of Magens Bay as one of the 10 best views in the world.
Moving onto the next island is St. John, the smallest of the 3 main islands. With no airports, a ferry will take you to Cruz Bay, where there are plenty of local shops, restaurants, and even the Parrot Club, where you can enjoy video slots, Blackjack, and Roulette. The island is full of pristine natural beauty, with Virgin Islands National Park taking up over half the island. Here you can discover hiking trails, historical sugar plantation ruins, salt ponds, and the natural beauty of St. John. Near the water, you can explore opportunities for snorkeling, windsurfing, and fly fishing.
The next island to discover while yachting in the USVI is St. Croix, the largest of the 3 main islands. The island is heavy in culture, with many historical landmarks, places of worship, and festivals that run all year long. Christiansted is a town located on the Northern side of the island, where visitors can immerse themselves in a world of arts, music, festivals, and many other cultural activities. The Christiansted Boardwalk is right along the stunning Caribbean Sea in St. Croix and is home to many shops, restaurants, and spectacular views. It is especially known as a haven for foodies because of the vast diversity in restaurants and bars. As with all the USVI, St. Croix has no shortage of places to explore on the water. Just off the island is Buck Island National Park, which is considered one of the finest marine gardens in the Caribbean. Here Snorkelers can enjoy an interpretive underwater trail, one of only 3 such trails in the country. The area is home to spectacular wildlife and some of the rarest species including the leatherback and hawksbill turtles.
With plenty of entertainment, culture, and breathtaking views to explore, the USVI is one of the premier yachting destinations in the Caribbean. A yacht charter to this destination will no doubt have visitors wanting to come back eventually to explore the islands all over again. Click below to learn more about yachting in the USVI!
