Brian Holland
Yacht Consultant
Brian grew up in a boating family with a home with a dock and several boats, on the water on Bainbridge Island, Washington. As a child, he designed and built several outboard hydroplanes with the help of his father. He was also very interested in flying and became a very proficient pilot in both land planes and seaplanes. He graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering and worked for Boeing Aircraft on the 727, 737, and 747 projects for four years. After the rollout of the 747, Boeing started laying off many design engineers. As Brian had worked his way through University by playing in a Rock and Roll band, Brian took a position in a traveling show band until 1975, when he moved back to Seattle and took a job as a yacht broker with the largest Tollycraft dealer at the time. He was always interested in Yacht Design and entered the Westlawn correspondence school of naval architecture, and after completing that, he started designing yachts for clients who wanted something different than what was currently available at the time. Some of his designs were built by local Northwest shipyards, including Vic Franck’s in Seattle, Padden Creek Marine in Bellingham, Washington, and Philbrook’s Shipyard in British Columbia, and others. He then went to Taiwan in search of an appropriate shipyard in which to build a custom yacht for a very knowledgeable client. This led to other custom and production builds in various Asian shipyards.
