Nautor’s Swan is a leader in the luxury sailing yacht market. Swan is globally recognized as the producer of exquisitely crafted sailing yachts, capable of offering the perfect balance of style and performance. Swan yachts have historically enjoyed a vast amount of success on the regatta racing circuit. For close to half a century, Nautor’s Swan has been the true sailor’s choice, designing and building luxurious, high performance yachts in Northern Finland, ranging from 36ft (11m) to 131ft (40m). Swan yachts build upon the classic, understated and unpretentious luxury enjoyed by their owners.

Nautor’s Swan was founded in 1966 by Pekka Koskenkyla in Pietarsaari, Finland. The legendary Swan 36 TARANTELLA was the first built for Heinz Ramm-Schmidt, a Finnish industrialist and avid sailor. The Swan 36 introduced, in addition to the fiberglass used for the hull, a significant number of innovations such as the rudder positioned fully aft, the skeg separated from the fin keel, the center of the hull shifted back with the application of a bustle, and the swelling of the keel aft thus providing great steering stability. Both the original Swan 36 as well as Ramm-Schmidt’s second boat, the TARANTELLA II are still going strong today. Tarantella II is still in the family and is being successfully sailed by Heinz’s son Leif. Sparkman & Stephens were the designers of approximately the first thousand Swan yachts sold by the Yard. These included the memorable and iconic Swan 38 and Swan 47 which, together with the other models, have positioned Swan as synonymous with performance coupled with quality and elegance, enduring reliability, and timeless lines. The unmistakable “Arrow” indented in the hull of every Swan, has eliminated the need to display the brand name.

In 1969, the Assembly Hall of the Nautor’s Swan boat yard burnt to the ground, destroying a dozen hulls in various stages of production. As a result, Pekka was forced to sell stakes in Nautor’s Swan to finance the rebuilding of the yard and to resume production.

During the 1980s, Nautor’s Swan entered a new era with the appointment of German Frers as designer, who has since been responsible for the design of all Swan yachts, maintaining that vital balance of competent racers, comfort and beauty in their design. Over 700 yachts have been produced on Frers’ design. The contribution of Frers also permitted Nautor’s Swan to enter in the “one design” racing yacht segment with the design of the Swan 45 in 2001, followed by the “Club Swan 42” in 2005 developed in association with the prestigious New York Yacht Club to encourage the return to traditional Corinthian sailing competitions and finally the Gazprom Swan 60 Class founded in 2012.

Since 1998 Leonardo Ferragamo and a group of investors have controlled and managed Nautor’s Swan. This management has evolved the brand by continuing to push forward a whirlwind of innovations and changes that firmly place the Swan yachts at the forefront of the international sailing world.

In September 2015, Nautor’s’ Swan presented the first Swan 115 S at the Monaco Yacht Show. The Swan 115 is the flagship of the new generation of maxi yachts built by Nautor, which includes the Swan 95 and Swan 140. At the end of September 2015, Nautor’s Swan reached another milestone, unveiling the new ClubSwan 50 designed by Juan Kouyoumdjian. This is a high-tech, aesthetically captivating one-design yacht, that appeals to the young and competitive, while still allowing the pleasure of cruising in the true spirit of Swan.

The Nautor’s Swan facilities include three locations in Finland:

  •  Kållby: plug & mould fabrication, lamination and oven posture, assembly of the smaller yachts
    •  Pietarsaari: headquarters, Swans maxis are built in a dedicated facility, the Boatbuilding Technology Center, which has created all the large units since 2002.
    •  Kronoby: highly skilled carpenters build the magnificent wood interiors

The value of a Swan is derived from the company’s strong heritage, skilled craftsmen and pursuit of excellence in every aspect of the build. From the design process to production, the best quality materials and innovative technology are used to deliver the most elegant and safest sailing yachts in the world.

Over 2,000 Swan yachts have been built to date with more than 95% still sailing the seas.
Swan yachts are considered the ultimate ocean-going, performance, luxury sailing yachts of unrivalled build quality with an enormous success rate in major sailing regattas. In 1968 Swan yachts had a 100% winning record in the seven regattas entered at Cowes week and in 1973/1974 a Swan 65, one of Nautor’s Swan classic boats and the largest fiberglass yacht of its time, won the first Whitbread Race. With nearly 50 years of experience, Nautor’s Swan is one of the most respected names in the field of sailing yacht builders.
