American Vision with Canadian Craftsmanship
Richmond Yachts was founded in 2004 by Texas businessman Don Davis after acquiring the former Sovereign Yachts facility in Richmond, British Columbia. The yard produced a series of high-volume fiberglass motoryachts between 138′ and 150′, known for their traditional interiors and thoughtful, owner-driven features. Operating until 2015, Richmond launched seven yachts from its 70,000 sq. ft. facility on the Fraser River.

Richmond Yachts
Founded in 2004 by Texas entrepreneur Don Davis, Richmond Yachts rose from the remains of Sovereign Yachts in Richmond, British Columbia. Davis acquired the yard to complete his own 138-foot tri-deck (later named Status Quo) after Sovereign folded, retaining most of its skilled workforce and reopening under a new banner.
Rather than full custom builds, Richmond focused on semi-custom, spec-built yachts to ensure quality, schedule control, and cost-effectiveness. The yard’s approach enabled uniform production and completion of vessels around 120‑155 ft in just about a year.
Richmond launched several notable motoryachts including the SunChaser (142′, 2006) and the flagship Status Quo tri-deck series, each engineered with ABS class certification and interior designs by Pavlik and Setzer.
Built in a climate-controlled, 70,000 sq ft facility, Richmond’ hulls featured composite fiberglass with refined traditional interiors and owner-driven upgrades. Incremental innovations—like redesigned vertical pilothouse windows—enhanced visibility and onboard comfort with each successive hull.
Founded in 2004 and based in Richmond, British Columbia, Richmond Yachts was born from the acquisition of the former Sovereign Yachts facility and leveraged a skilled Pacific Northwest workforce.Â
The yard focused on semi-custom, spec-built fiberglass superyachts—ranging from 137′ to 151′—offering high-volume production with owner-inspired refinements.
Richmond Yachts delivered yachts between approximately 42 m and 46 m (137′–151′), including notable hulls like the 138′ TCB/Miss Stephanie and 142′ SunChaser and Playpen.Â
They built GRP semi-displacement monohulls optimized for comfortable long-range cruising, ABS class compliance, and efficient performance.
Constructed with resin-infused composite fiberglass and robust internal framing, Richmond yachts feature climate-controlled tooling and refined traditional woodworking.
With a 70,000 sq ft covered facility, deepwater dockage, and tooling capacity for four 120′–155′ yachts simultaneously, Richmond offered spec-build delivery, refit support, and owner-directed enhancements until its closure in 2015.
