Brian Tansey is one of the founders of Worth Avenue Yachts, a fast-growing American yacht firm which has sold over 1.2 billion dollars of yachts since it launched in 2011.
Entering the yachting industry was almost a foregone conclusion for this Florida native, who could drive a boat long before he could get behind the wheel of a car. Beginning his marine career early with a high school job at Basset Boat Company – the largest Sea Ray dealer in the world – Tansey went on to become a well-known yacht broker in the US luxury market.
After two decades in yacht brokerage, including a period as Vice President of a major international yachting company, Tansey recognized the need for a fresh approach to the yacht brokerage model, one that would deliver a higher standard of service to clients.
In collaboration with co-founder Michael Mahan, Tansey launched Worth Avenue Yachts with the principle that the clients would be looked after through a collaborative effort, whereby brokers would pool their knowledge, experiences, and contacts on behalf of each client. Contrary to rival brokerages where a single broker is assigned to each client, customers of Worth Avenue Yachts would benefit from the expertise of an entire team, with over a hundred years of combined broker experience. This was a novel way of approaching yacht sales and charter.
The experiment was a major success.
5 years later, and Worth Avenue Yachts has offices in Europe and the U.S., with extensive megayacht sales, charter, and management divisions. In 2016, Worth Avenue Yachts was responsible for almost 10% of all global sales of yachts over 100 feet, has cornered over 40% of the market in Westport yachts, and sells yachts 50-77% faster than the industry average.
Brian Tansey’s maritime beginnings led to an incredible career in the yachting industry, one which would then allow him to launch a yacht brokerage that would change the way the yachting industry does business.
