Comments
Zebra is visually stunning Spirit of Tradition style yacht for use by her owners as a lively day-sailor, competitive racer and / or comfortable weekend cruiser.
With their timeless beauty and advanced construction, the W-46s quicken sailors’ hearts for generations to come.
The hull shape is unmistakably stunning. Above the waterline it has gorgeous overhangs fore and aft. But lurking beneath the water is a sleek, modern underbody sculpted from cold-molded strips of wood laminated with epoxy. The keel is a fin with bulb and the spade rudder is of carbon fiber. Towering high above the teak is a strong, light-weight carbon-fiber rig.
Tradition and a respect for what is truly beautiful can be seen in the lines of the W.46, but she is designed for today. There is plenty of room for a sizable crew, but she can also be raced easily by just a few eager sailors. In cruising mode, she can be sailed by one or two couples – or even a single-hander.
“W.46s are a treat to build. Their excellent design, well-thought-out construction plan, and aesthetic all take advantage of wood’s superior engineering qualities to yield a lightweight, strong, and beautiful vessel.”
TAYLOR ALLEN, OWNER, ROCKPORT MARINE, BUILDER OF W-CLASS YACHTS
“I think you would be amazed at the feel of the W-46.”
ROBERT PERRY, NAVAL ARCHITECT
“Feathering upwind with the sleek vessel in perfect trim and the helm as light as a pillow, it was hard not to feel a twinge of sympathy for all the other sailors, on all their other boats.”
HERB MCCORMICK, NEW YORK TIMES
Zebra has been lightly used by her original owner. Winter inside stored and maintained by Hinckley.
